USSD

Setting up USSD

The USSD callback, the menu table and the SMS follow-ups through Africa's Talking.

Part of Reach

Before you start

Sketch the menu on paper first and keep it to three levels. Each screen holds 182 characters, so short labels work best on small displays.

Steps

Each channel installs disabled, so nothing is sent before these steps are done.

Install the SMS package

Install and configure Reach Africa's Talking, which sends the follow-up messages.

Secure the callback

Store a random callback token in Reach and add it to the service code's callback address.

Seed the menu

Run the seed workflow once, then edit the sample rows to match your services.

Add actions

Create the allow-listed actions your menu names, such as a statement report.

Go live

Deploy the session workflow and enable the channel after a test dial on a real handset.

See it on your own systems.

A demo takes an hour, on your data landscape rather than ours.
