WhatsApp through your Clickatell integration
Many South African payment companies already send their SMS through Clickatell. This package brings the WhatsApp side of that same integration into Reach, so chats and texts land on one client record.
- Clickatell One API
- Secret header on callbacks
- Button replies as text
One Clickatell integration, two channels on the record
Clickatell's One API carries SMS and WhatsApp through a single integration. Reach sends WhatsApp replies through that API with your integration key, and tags each message with its own reference so the Clickatell portal and the Reach console point to the same send.
When a client answers, Clickatell posts the reply callback to Reach with a custom security header that you define in the portal. Reach compares that header in fixed time, reads the WhatsApp items in the callback and ignores status updates and any SMS traffic sharing the integration.
Quick-reply buttons and list pickers come back as the label the client tapped. A collections agent sees the words Pay now on the timeline, which is easier to act on than a postback code.
Where it helps
Debit order confirmations
Confirm on WhatsApp that a debit order was set up, and let the client tap a button to query the amount with your service desk.
Prepaid electricity follow-ups
Answer a client who asks why a token purchase has not arrived, with the transaction reference visible on their record.
One Clickatell account
Procurement keeps one supplier for SMS and WhatsApp while your agents answer both from the Reach console.
What you need
-
A Clickatell One API integration
With the WhatsApp channel added and your business number onboarded by Clickatell.
-
The integration API key
Stored in the STRAX credential vault; Reach sends it on every call and never writes it to a log.
-
A public HTTPS address
Clickatell posts reply callbacks to it with the security header you configure.
-
Reach Core
Holds the client records, conversations and agent console that WhatsApp replies file into.
Good to know
WhatsApp accepts free text only within 24 hours of the client's last message. Template messages through Clickatell are the next addition; until then, write first on SMS or email.
Questions
Can we keep our Clickatell SMS in the reach-sms package?
Yes, the SMS package handles Clickatell texts and this package handles the WhatsApp side, each with its own channel key and callback address.
How is the callback protected?
Clickatell cannot sign callbacks, so you add a custom security header in the portal and store the same secret in Reach. Calls without it are rejected before any workflow runs.
Do button replies need extra setup?
No setup is needed. The label the client tapped is filed as their message text.
What should we check before go-live?
Send one real WhatsApp reply and confirm it appears on the test contact, because Clickatell publishes the callback schema without sample payloads.
